A man living just outside of Las Vegas had his home raided by Nevada police after neighbors reported something unusual: seven tigers living at the residence. The homeowner, Karl Mitchell, told officers that the big cats were his emotional support animals and that he didn’t need a special permit to keep them.
Mitchell claimed that six of the seven tigers were given to him by Joe Exotic, the controversial star of the Netflix show Tiger King. He also told authorities he believed that since the tigers were emotional support pets, he was allowed to keep them without special licensing.
Neighbors had raised concerns after spotting Mitchell walking the tigers through the neighborhood without leashes. Many were worried about their safety and the safety of the animals. Some even said they often heard a loud roaring coming from the property.
When police arrived, they found all seven tigers on site and quickly arranged for them to be taken to an animal sanctuary in another state. Authorities are now investigating whether Mitchell broke any laws by keeping the tigers in a residential area.
