Actor Tom Welling, best known for playing a younger version of Superman on the television series Smallville, was arrested for DUI in the parking lot of an Arby's restaurant in California, local authorities confirmed to the New York Post on Tuesday (January 28).

Welling, 47, was booked for misdemeanor driving under the influence with a blood alcohol level above 0.08% just after midnight on Sunday (January 26), which was initially reported by TMZ. A booking sheet obtained by the New York Post described Welling as having a "clear" complexion, weighing 240 pounds and lists his occupation as "actor--self employed."

Welling's arrest came hours after he shared an Instagram post celebrating his wife Jessica's birthday.

“Happy Birthday to our Angel who makes our dreams come true and inspires us even more!” Welling wrote in the caption of a carousel of photos of his wife. “We love you to the moon and back!”

Welling starred in the breakout role of a young Clark Kent on Smallville, a teenage drama focused on Superman's origin story, from 2001 to 2011. The show initially aired on the WB network prior to it merging with UPN to become the CW in 2006.

Welling also appeared as the second Baker child in the film Cheaper by the Dozen, as well as Lucifer, Draft Day, The Choice, The Fog, Batwoman and The Winchesters.
