If you thought the Jussie Smollett drama was over, prepare to be disappointed.
Obviously, we all remember how Jussie alleged he was attacked in Chicago over racist and homophobic bases, which was dismissed. We also remember that he miraculously dodged disorderly conduct charges for allegedly faking the assault. Well now that Chicago PD feel they wasted a lot of time, not to mention money on the investigation, they want Jussie to pay. Literally.
According to TMZ, Chicago filed a suit against him to collect all the funds lost in their efforts. This includes at least $130,000 in overtime, the City's attorney fees, and punitive damages. However, the 37-year-old actor doesn't think that's fair. Smollett believes even if he did lie (though he's not admitting to that) it was impossible for him to predict the resources law enforcement would have exhausted. He also doesn't feel there's "a direct link between [Jussie's] statements and the costs the City incurred." Therefore, their money equals their problem.
Jussie's goal is to get the lawsuit thrown out on the basis of prejudice in order of not allowing it to be filed again. Smollett's hearing is set for August 13th.
