Black excellence aligned Saturday (June 22nd) for The Hollywood Unlocked's Social Impact Awards and Brunch.
Celebrities came together to recognize their fellow peers thanks to HU's founder, Jason Lee. The media mogul explained the importance of honoring those in our community who've played a major role in bring a positive light to the culture. Especially when it comes on to African-American media supporting African-American figures.
He made the decision to team with Pretty Little Thing to power the event. The clothing company's CEO & Founder, Umar Kamani, also expressed his pride in catering to such an elaborate event.
“It is a time for us to celebrate some of the biggest talent within the U.S. and recognize everyone’s achievements. Having worked with some of the incredible talent being honoured tonight, myself and the PrettyLittleThing team are excited to be a part of this event.”
Those being honored that afternoon were: Rapper Cardi B (Fearlessness Award), entertainment mogul Nick Cannon (Perseverance Award), the late rapper Nipsey Hussle (Community Award), gospel singer Karen Clark Sheard (Innovation Award), radio show The Breakfast Club (Culture Award), comedian/actress Tiffany Haddish (Spirit Award), boxer Floyd Mayweather (Pioneer Award), and singer/songwriter/actress Teyana Taylor (Inspiration Award).
Much of Hollywood was in attendance, not only to toast to these path-makers, but to also promote good they've been working on within their own careers. Actress and author Jennifer Freeman explained the motivation behind showing her personal struggles in "Journey to Loving Yourself."
Sage the Gemini also has a lot to celebrate as he's very excited to have a feature on Chris Brown's latest album, Indigo. Even though it's unknown if he'll find himself making a feature on the Indigoat Tour, he's just happy for the artistic recognition.
Boo 2! A Madea Halloween actress, Taja V. Simpson, gave a little about her starring role in an upcoming boxing film called Lola. Taja will also be venturing in the tech world thanks to "TV Fitness," an app she's working on that promotes physical fitness.
