Insecure fans everywhere were shocked when news broke that Issa Rae's ex-boyfriend, Lawrence (Jay Ellis), won't be returning this season.
Speculations began rise when fans noticed that Lawrence was no where in sight in the season 3 trailer of the hit HBO series.
Now before the "Lawrence-Hive" gets all emotional, Issa explains why it went down that way.
“We want to stay as true to life as possible. They had a great conversation at the end of season two and it was just about like, hey, she’s moving on Daniel. Sometimes we have those conversations. You never see the exes again. And it’s okay! You gotta explore life without Lawrence.”
Furthermore, showrunner Penny Prentice explains that they want to tell "stories that are true and authentic.” On top of that fact that it was hard to write storylines around Lawrence when he’s not in Issa’s life. So, "let’s just deal with the reality of what her life is now. Let’s be true to that. When you breakup, you have closure."
Welp, there you have it! I guess we'll have to see how Insecure evolves sans Lawrence.
Now while you let that sink in, go ahead and mark your calendar because Insecure Season 3 returns to HBO on Sunday, August 12th.
