In honor of National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day, Shirley Strawberry and Carla Ferrell discuss why it's important to increase HIV awareness among the African American community.
In 2016, an estimated 44% of African Americans tested positive for HIV. Despite making up 12% of the population, studies have shown that HIV cases among gay and bisexual African American men have increased 30%. With these numbers, it is important that we do our part in our communities to ensure individuals "get educated, get tested, get involved and get treated" because life doesn't stop after HIV.
