Taraji P. Henson to Speak at Spelman College Graduation

Award-winning actress and activist Taraji P. Henson has been announced as the 2025 commencement speaker for Spelman College. The graduation ceremony will be a major event for the historically Black women’s college, and Taraji's presence will make it even more memorable for the graduating class.

Spelman’s Interim President, Rozalyn Brewer, shared why Taraji was chosen to speak. She said, “Taraji’s brilliance on screen is matched by her commitment to advocacy and empowerment, making her a powerful role model for our graduating students as they prepare to step into the world and lead in their own extraordinary ways.”

Taraji is known for her powerful roles in films and TV shows like Hidden Figures, Empire, and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. But she is also highly respected for her work off-screen. She uses her platform to speak out on mental health in the Black community and supports programs that promote education and self-confidence among young people.

Spelman College has a long history of celebrating women who are leaders, change-makers, and trailblazers. Taraji P. Henson’s speech is sure to inspire the Class of 2025 as they begin their next chapter.
