The Strawberry Letter: He Ignored Me Through It All

Dear Steve and Shirley,

My fiancé can be very difficult when he doesn’t get his way. He’s used to having all of my attention, but since I moved my younger sister in, he’s had an attitude because I have to spend a lot of time with her. She’s pregnant, and my mom can’t handle her, so I took her in. My fiancé was on board at first, but now he’s upset all the time. He thinks my sister should be contributing more around the house, but I don’t want her to overdo it because she’s young and having a high-risk pregnancy.

When he’s in a mood, he ignores me, her, and even our dog. I can have a whole conversation with him, and he won’t respond. The only time he’s fully engaged is when we’re intimate, but even then, he won’t say a word. I’ve tried putting up with it, but it crushes my spirit. He’s passionate and doing all the things, but he’s silent, which makes me feel like a tramp.

I cooked a big birthday meal for him on Sunday, and he ate dinner with us without saying a word. Afterward, he got up and washed the dishes in complete silence. The next day, my sister had a doctor’s appointment, and since I couldn’t take her due to work, he took her instead. They rode in total silence. My sister later told me she’d rather take the bus next time than endure another silent ride with him. I told him it was wrong to ignore her, and he just looked at me without saying a word.

I don’t know what’s going on in his mind, but it’s getting worse now that my family is involved, given that my sister is staying with us. His behavior is really hurtful. Steve and Shirley, how can I get through to him so he’ll stop all this nonsense?
