Subject: This Old Lady Has Got To Go
Dear Steve and Shirley,
I am a 27-year-old woman and I inherited my great grandmother’s house 5 months ago after she died and I am having a big problem with my great grandmother’s caretaker. She’s my great grandmother’s closest friend and took care of my great grandmother for years. She’s had full access to the house and everything that belonged to my great grandmother, but she fails to realize it’s my house now and she has to stop coming and going as she pleases, in my house! I noticed her going through my mailbox daily, picking out her mail. I kindly asked her to have her mail re-routed to her own house. She called me a selfish b**** and told me to mind my manners. I respect my elders, but this is too much. One morning I noticed a note on the fridge, saying she had borrowed my milk and butter and she let herself in because she didn’t want to wake me up. She used to take food from my great grandmother and my family let it slide, but I’m not having it. One Saturday, I came downstairs and she was coming through the back door with her laundry and I confronted her. She told me that she’s been doing her laundry here once a month for many years and my great grandmother is turning in her grave because I’m so evil. She stormed out of my house and later that day, I got all of the locks changed. She came over the next day and her key didn’t work. She told my mom that I’m disrespectful. My mom said I should reconsider and let her do laundry once a month. I do not want her in my house at all. Am I being mean and unreasonable?
