It was a bountiful day for eight Kent State students thanks to the Steve & Marjorie Foundation.
A college education is fundamental to leading a productive professional life. However, such a basic necessity doesn't come cheap. Fortunately for a group of young freshmen men, Steve Harvey gave an answer for their financial hardships on his talk show, STEVE.
Despite not graduating from the university, our fearless leader isn't allowing that to deter him from helping his fellow Golden Eagles in a major way. Uncle Steve shared the good news of taking on the tuition costs of Lamont Averett, Zethran Jackson, Mark Jenkins, Jaiden Morales, Johnell Parnell, Kelvon Gibson, Anthony Morris Jr., Craig Johnson (mentee of the Steve Harvey Mentoring Program) for all four years. The only thing he asks in return is to maintain a 2.5 GPA every semester.
Kent's website also detailed the foundation donated $10,000 to the school's Men Empowerment Network, M.E.N.
The scholarships were created in honor of Devin Moore. Devin shared much in common with our favorite talk show host, like being a gentleman of the illustrious Omega Psi Phi fraternity at Kent State. The basketball player whose mother considered him "a bright light," collapsed on the court due to an unknown heart condition.
Though the broadcast journalism student has passed on, his memory will continue to thrive by students benefiting from an outstanding education thanks to Mr. Harvey's great work.
