Olympic Medalist Sprints Onto Busy Highway To Save Tortoise

Olympic gold-medalist David Verburg used his running skills to save a tortoise's life. The 27-year-old shared a video of himself running onto a busy intersection to rescue the tortoise.

With a heart full of compassion, the champion sprinter is seen retrieving the "shell shocked" tortoise and then dropping it off in a safe spot under a tree,  away from the busy roads.

David admits to Runners World that he almost second guessed his decision to run onto the busy intersection

“My shoes were untied and loose, so as I started running, I low-key thought, ‘This was a terrible idea,’ but I already started running.”

Using his God-given ability,  the animal loving athlete – who won the 4 x 400-meter relay at the 2016 Rio Olympics  – says he believes he rescued a gopher tortoise, which is protected under the Endangered Species Act.

Wow, talk about Godspeed! 🏃🏾💨
